On Target Firearms Training Academy offers basic to advanced proficiency courses as laid out and regulated by the PFTC – Professional Firearms Training Council.
Our experienced Instructors and Assessors are up to date, registered and accredited with the PFTC and will gladly assist you in a manner and conduct that is up to standard within the firearms training industry.
Courses are presented as Unit Standards that fall within the National Qualifications Framework.
The Unit Standards presented at On Target are:
BASIC
Basic training involves knowledge of the Law with regards to firearms, or what is known as the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, together with basic firearm unit standard disciplines.
117705 – Demonstrate Knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 (Law)
119649 – Handle and Use a Handgun
119650 – Handle and Use a Self Loading Rifle or Carbine
119651 – Handle and Use a Manually Operated Rifle or Carbine
119652 – Handle and Use a Shotgun
INTERMEDIATE
Intermediate training is required of Security and Law Enforcement in order for them to fulfill their duties in the field. These unit standards are collectively referred to as Business Purposes. Although this is the minimum required training for security etc. we encourage Security and Law Enforcement alike to push to more advanced training to increase competency and skill levels. Civilians are also able to take these courses.

123514 – Handle and Use a Shotgun for Business Purposes
123515 – Handle and Use a Handgun for Business Purposes
123519 – Handle and Use a Manually Operated Rifle or Carbine for Business Purposes
ADVANCED
Advanced unit standards are what is referred to as Tactical Related Duties and at this level all safety aspects, safe handling, use of firearms and physical fitness are crucial for completing these unit standards. Team dynamics and tactics will be used at this level.

123518 – Demonstrate Tactical Proficiency with a Self Loading Rifle or Carbine

123516 – Supervise Shooting Exercises (Range Officer)
